Pedaling Dynamics
At Athleticamps, we feel it’s important to not only look at your bike fit from a biomechanics perspective (e.g. standard Retül bike fit), we also feel it’s important to analyze your pedal stroke through a process called “Pedaling Dynamics”.
What is Pedaling Dynamics?
Pedaling Dynamics is the collection of the actual force applied to the pedals at all points during the pedal stroke, indicating exactly what measure of force is applied at each degree. Think of it as a MRI of your pedal stroke.
How does it work?
We provide three services that can be utilized to collect and analyze this important data:
Bike Fit Add-on ($95) - Utilizing Garmin’s dual sensing power meter pedals (Shimano SPD SL, Look and Shimano MTB options available) we will analyze real time pedaling dynamics that will help fine tune your fit and ultimately lead to a more powerful, supple and less fatiguing pedal stroke. Data includes:
Left/Right Power Balance - Measure power from your left leg versus power from your right leg to get a better look at how symmetrically you’re producing power.
Power Phase - Get a clear view at where you’re producing power in the pedal stroke.
Platform Power Offset - Ensure proper cleat position by keeping track of where power is applied on the pedal.
Garmin pedals attached to your current bike ($195) - Independent of a bike fitting, we attach the Garmin pedals to your bike and review pedaling dynamics listed above.
Standalone Service ($295) - Using our Retül adjustable bike with a scientific SRM Torque Analysis crank attached along with Garmin power pedals, you will be guided through a testing protocol that produces different loads and strains under various conditions.
This robust collection of data analyzes all aspects of the pedal strokes in multiple environments (e.g. going easy versus tempo versus maximum output). Collected data is prepared into a graphical report with accompanying data analysis.
At the end of the test, you’ll receive a comprehensive evaluation and summary. From the results, we prepare a plan with exercises so that you know exactly what you need to do to improve.
The SRM Science PowerMeter is used by cycling federations, universities, and sports science labs around the world.
