Coaching

What is our coaching philosophy?
We’re proud to offer a very different kind of coaching experience. Our coaches have years of experience as competitors and coaches, as well as formal education and work in the field of exercise physiology. But how that training and experience benefits you is what matters. For example, our coaches:

  • Understand what goes into creating a successful coaching relationship, from the athlete’s perspective as well as a coach’s point of view.
  • Know that no two athletes are alike, and that focusing on strengthening your pluses and eliminating your minuses is what moves you forward.
At Athleticamps, your coach will invest in you, keep commitments, plan your program when you’re not standing right there, and work closely with you to make sure you achieve results. Yes, our coaches keep athletes accountable, but they also understand that coaching is an interactive process that requires as much listening as it does providing direction and advice.

When you join our coaching program, you get a coach that has a passion for your sport and a commitment to seeing that you succeed. It may sound strange, but your progress is our product, which means that your success is our success.

Why we don't have coaching levels (e.g. Gold, Silver, Bronze)?
The majority of coaches present athletes different plans that focus on what you get or what you don't get. This can be very confusing to the athlete looking to improve their fitness. At Athleticamps, we take a different approach in that we understand every athlete is unique and every athlete requires different "ingredients" based on many variables. As we like to joke, we are not ATT when it comes to plans. We want to talk to you, and create the best plan to achieve your goals. Contact us for your free consultation.

Bike Fitting

How do we approach bike fitting?

Our renowned bicycle fitting process combines state-of-the-art technology with old-world mastery to deliver the most exceptional fit experience anywhere.   Not only do we use the best technology, we take time to look at every athlete's physical limitations.  Successful bike fitting starts with the athlete and their own structural and neurological fitness.   At AthletiCamps, we offer the COMPLETE solution by looking at each athlete and offering up any off bike exercises that are needed. We utilize the Retul 3D motion-capture system, the most accurate and comprehensive tool for bicycle fit in the world. We also have the staff to match, and their expertise putting these advanced tools to good use, along with a goal of creating a true on-going relationship with the athlete is unmatched in the cycling world. What level athlete do we fit?
The simple answer is all levels. One thing is common amongst beginners, enthusiasts, and experienced racers; the importance of having an optimal bike fit is essential. Optimal bike fit enables improved fitness and comfort, which allows any level rider a better experience, regardless of their goals.
Why choose our bike fitting services?
It doesn't matter if you are a beginner or a pro tour rider, being setup correctly on your bike is a must. That sounds pretty straightforward and simple. And in most places, bike fitting is a cookie-cutter process of applying tools to figure out body-to-bike geometries. But that’s not what we do here—because cookie-cutter solutions only work on cookies. Humans are far too complex to fit into a one-size-fits-all system. Instead, we’ve spent years developing a holistic process that incorporates the complexities of each rider to create uniquely individual fit and position solutions.

Here’s what each of our professional fits includes:
  • Interview - We start by getting to know you, your cycling history, how often you ride, your goals, and any issues related to achieving an optimal fit.
  • Conduct a pre-fit biomechanical assessment - Developed by a physical therapist, our assessment allows us to evaluate your cycling-related flexibility and core strength and how they relate to the fitting process. The assessment helps us understand any physical issues you’re having and allows us to create a personal home program plan for off-the-bike work that will improve your comfort and performance.
  • Foot analysis - Your feet are the foundation of your pedal stroke. When your feet are incorrectly aligned, painful, or not functioning as they should, your cycling suffers (and so do you.) We use FootBalance technology because it’s the best we’ve found. It allows us to diagnose and quickly customizet a product that addresses comfort, power, and efficiency for a stronger and more relaxed foot. You can purchase the fully customized inserts and use them in any shoe.
  • Take measurements - Before and after your fit, we use Retül's Zin digital measuring tool to take detailed measurements of your bike with millimeter accuracy. The measurements let you see the changes made on the bike during the fit process and give a detailed record of your final setup.
  • Use state-of-the art Retül technology - All fits use 3D motion analysis to guide the fitting process. Old-school plumb bobs and goniometers can’t compare to new-school motion-capture technology. Measuring your fit while you are pedaling your bike gives a far more accurate result than older methods that try to determine your fit while you are in a fixed position (static fit).
  • Explain all changes - We believe it’s important for you to understand what we’re doing and why. We explain every adjustment we’re making and how they will improve your comfort, performance, and economy.
  • Review recommended off-bike exercises - The majority of athletes that visit us need to work on issues off the bike that create problems when they’re riding. After every fit, we go over specific strength and flexibility exercises with you so that you leave the fit knowing exactly what you have to do to achieve more balanced structural fitness.
  • Deliver your report - You receive a detailed report via email with 24 hours of your visit. The report contains our notes, before-and-after measurements of the bike, before-and-after data captures of you in motion, and before-and-after pictures. We also keep your data and reports on our system for easy reference should you buy a new bike, add a new component, or simply have a question.
In addition to our proven fitting process, there are a few other reasons to choose us for your bike fit:
  • Independence - Another benefit of working with us is that we’re independent professionals who are not connected to a company that’s trying to sell products. Our lack of company affiliation allows us to maintain an objective, product-neutral approach, so that we can freely recommend what’s truly best for you. We have a variety of replacement parts and brands available and choose the best components that compliment your fit and budget.
  • Saddle library demo program - We understand that your saddle is probably the biggest contributor to bike comfort. When needed, we take during your fit to understand your body and riding style and help you find a saddle that gives you long-lasting comfort and performance. Our saddle library demo program allows you to try out saddles to determine which is best for you.
  • Priority service - We have an outstanding long-term relationship with local bike shops, which provides our clients priority on any changes we can’t do at our training center.
  • Time sensitivity - We know your time is valuable. We maintain an appointment-based system and stay on time to deliver your services in the estimated time so that you can plan your visit accordingly.
  • Welcoming atmosphere - Our training studio offers a relaxed, professional feel where you can be assured you are receiving the attention you deserve.
  • Long-term care - As a full-service training center, we view your improved performance as our product. That’s why we take a complete approach that includes coaching, skills training, performance testing, and structural health. It’s also why we’re here whenever you have questions or need advice on progressing to the next level.
What is the saddle demo program?
A critical component of any cyclist's comfort and performance on the bike is the saddle. The better a saddle fits an individual, the more comfortable that person will be while riding the bike. This directly translates into riding faster, stronger, and longer, as well as not encountering lingering issues off the bike. As professional bike fitters, we have seen the effects of poorly fitting saddles on many cyclists and how it directly relates to dimished riding enjoyment.
Why do 9 out of 10 bike fit clients choose FootBalance customize inserts?
Most, if not all cycling and running shoes come with generic inexpensive “insoles” that do nothing to support your heel and arch. And even though cycling is not a weight bearing sport, you still apply a lot of pressure to the foot during the pedal stroke.

Your feet are the foundation for your entire body and not only are your feet different from everyone else’s, they are different from each other.  When this foundation is misaligned or functioning poorly, the effects can be felt throughout the body.

FootBalance inserts gives us the ability to quickly mold customize inserts for each foot separately and replace your current inserts before the bike fit, where you can see the immediate results.
How long do FootBalance customized inserts last?
In most cases, FootBalance will last in your cycling and running shoes for up to 2 years
Can FootBalance inserts be used in other shoes?
Yes, many of our clients use their FootBalance in there running or even work shoes. They will transfer as long as the shoe size is similar.

Performance Testing

Why is performance testing important?
At Athleticamps, we realize that it's not just one thing that makes athletes successful; it's many different elements that contribute to their success.  We offer a variety of performance testing options that include metabolic, lactate, and biomechanical assessments.

Athletes need to track their progress. They need to understand what is working for them, what is not, and make the necessary adjustmensts. We have been testing athletes for over 15 years. The athlete that continues to track their level of fitness makes the most gains. We believe that indoor testing is necessary and still the best option, simple because it elimated the most variables.

Take a few minutes and browse our services and feel free to give us a call or send us an email to discuss which options are best for your current fitness level and ultimate goals.
How is our performance testing done?
We believe in performance testing for any level of athlete. Simply put, athletes should track their progress just like successful companies do. To assure you accomplish your goals, you need to know “where you are”, “where you are going”, and “how to get there. “Where you are” is the performance testing building block of your program. Throughout our years of experience working with thousands of athletes, ones that test consistently generally show the most improvement. At Athleticamps:

  • We have over 15+ years of utilizing performance testing in an endurance sport environment
  • We use laboratory grade equipment on all our athletes. Other coaches talk about the importance of testing, we have the knowledge in-house to do these tests and understand the results as they apply to your program.
  • Remember, it’s important to understand you should “test” to train and not the other way around. Performance testing gives you an accurate assessment of where you are and allows us to plot a map for success.

Performance Camps-Tours

Why choose our performance tours?

Thank you for considering Athleticamps as your performance tour resource. Realizing there are many tour and training options available to you these days, we believe that you will find our tour approach the best in the business.

  • Begin with an interview about your cycling history, goals, and expectations of your time spent with us

To improve in this sport, you need to know what your goal is, where you are starting and how to get there. Bike Skills

What is our philosophy to skills training?
At AthletiCamps, we apply a unique and highly personalized approach to skills training that we've perfected over many years.
  • S - Systematic, structured, and stepped approach that begins by assessing your current skills and creating a skills training program tailored to you.
  • A - Ability and confidence continue to grow as you move through each step to the next.
  • F - Foundation is critical to building successful habits. We fill in any gaps to establish a solid base across the skills spectrum and help you build from there.
  • E - Excellence in instruction and outcome. We’ve been doing this for a very long time, which means we can quickly assess, instruct, and help you turn new skills into second nature.
Our background of racing motorcycles, cars, road bikes, and mountain bikes has given us a unique understanding of bike handling dynamics and how bike handling skills relate to the ever-changing environments you face when riding.

Our approach to training works for all levels of cyclists. Whether you are learning skills for the first time, refining what you know, replacing bad habits, or taking on expert-level challenges, we have the experience and process by which to enhance your skill set.

Through our coaching, we strive to make you safer. Safer translates to more confidence. And more confidence translates to greater competence in any condition.
Why do we prefer to do our skills training one-on-one?
We believe skills are best taught one-on-one where each athlete can receive the attention they deserve for such an important component of their cycling. Every athlete starts at a different level and every athlete improves at a different rate. For that reason we believe that skills taught one-on-one with the use of our GoPro and Phantom 4K drone is the best approach to acheive results!
